Kim's Awareness

Shortly, after Kim's death, we received a call from Kris King, a classmate and friend of Kim's since kindergarten. He wanted to organize a golf outing to help raise funds for the Kimberly Ostien Memorial Scholarship. The first golf outing was held in May of 2004 at Cobbs Creek Golf Course.The golf outing was a great success and continues to be a success year after year.

The golf outing is annually the largest fundraiser for the scholarship fund. It is typically held in early June at Cobbs Creek Golf Course. Following the golf outing there is a barbecue dinner at the Knights of Columbus in Upper Darby. The dinner is attended by golfers and non-golfers alike and features a raffle auction of a wide variety of prizes including Phillies tickets, golf gear, and much more.

Some highlights from the golf outing and dinner include:

• Honoring the scholarship recipients in attendance

• Year after year, people leaving with piles of prizes from the raffle auction.

• A hole-in-one on the closest-to-the-pin contest on the 17th hole by Hugh O'Connor in 2007. It was Hugh's first ever hole in one after years of golfing. He knew he had a little help on that one.

• Kim's brother Matt and his foursome of misfits coming in last place most years.
